Lada Samara Reliability

Due to the rebuild of my Alfa 33 going well over schedule (and budget) I'm considering buying a cheap Lada Samara.

There are a few available, mainly low mileage at low prices - what should I look out for as potential MOT problems?

Not being able to get any parts for it?

If you're looking for a cheapie runabout, a Skoda Favorit or Felicia would be a much better bet, IMHO.

There is no problem getting any Lada parts you might need, everything is available, mostly cheap too.

I've been buying my spares from him for over three years now, he's also very helpfull and has worked with Lada's for a long time.

BRAKES BRAKES BRAKES BRAKES BRAKES. Used to work at a company who were=20 a Lada dealership. Rear wheel cylinders and corroded brake pipes were a=20 real issue. Worst I saw was a car that needed every single pipe=20 replacing for its first ever MOT.

When you drive it, the pedal will feel as if it's got bugger all=20 resistance and they'll only start working when the pedal is pretty much=20 near the floor. It can be quite frightening but that's actually normal=20 operation for them.

Personally I'd go to the local auction and pick up a cheap =A3200 car of=20 any other make.

Or an Mk2 Golf with 1,6 motor.

Dunno too much about the Samara but my 1500 Riva was a great little car. Mind you I had to replace the carb with a Weber one and by the time I got rid of it the dizzy was up the creek too. It was also one of the most comfortable cars I have owned.
