If it were I, I'd disconnect the battery entirely from the system. I've done this before. Top up the battery fully with a decent charger before you leave, then it'll be fine and dandy for your return, otherwise you're probably asking for it to fail when it could potentially last a lot longer.
My view would be: The mx5 will be fine, good solid car. Megane - pretty rubbish overall, that's the one I'd be more worried about in terms of ditching it for 3 months.
Ok, arguably yes, but any friend is likley to think a 2 mile drive to a supermarket 'should be enough', when really I think getting the battery in good condition then leaving it would be better in that case. It's going to need a good 20/30 mile run per week to compensate for battery loss, which I don't think any friend could be bothered with.

I would not exclude it, but I have had vehicles stood unused much longer than that which didn't suffer any problems with the petrol. The main problem seems to be carbs and injectors gumming up with the deposits from the petrol, rather than the fuel not being usable at all
- hence suggestions to drain the fuel out of carbs.

Thanks for all the advice folks. I'm going to hedge my bets, disconnect the battery on the MX & leave the battery connected on the Renault.

There are suitable battery chargers knocking around cheap at the minute - see my other thread.
Why leave it connected on the Renault ? Has it no electronics ? Not even a clock ?
