Leaving Laguna for long long time - immoblilser

I am going away and am not sure that my battery will last for a couple of months and want to avoid immobilizer problems when I return to a flat. As the car is securely parked my plan is to:



Leave the key in the ignition. Disconnect the battery. Remove key from ignition.



On my return do the reverse procedure.



Is this a sensible plan? Is there a better way? Can I lock the car without setting the immobilizer?



It is a 1999 Laguna 3.0 V6 auto with factory installed immobilizer, alarm et John Hewitt, Malaga, Spain

A battery should keep its charge for a couple of months, serpently if all that's energised is the immobiliser. Charge it up well using a battery charger before you go away and recharge it when you return.

Should is a little word with a very big bill from the Renault dealer if it does not work. The car runs whatever runs when it is turned off - clock, alarm, immobiliser, remote control listener ???. The other problem is that it is parked in an multi-story car park with no mains available to charge the battery. The battery was OK for the immobliser the last time I left it but there was not enough power to start the car.

I'd be surprised. Many makers won't entertain a warranty claim for a flat battery if the car is parked up for more than 3 weeks.

need to connect this to an auxiliary spare 12V battery so that theelectronics are then powered by two batteries. Fully charge them before youleave.

Gunson also does one but it's for connected up to the electricity mains.
