Main beam warning light.

So you think I use main beam where there are street lights?

Perhaps the reason you don't understand where to use main beam is you have your fog lights on all the time? Or can't find the dip switch, more likely.

No, I was (light heartedly) suggesting that as you drive under street lights (and thus dipped beam) most of the time when you do find yourself on an unlit stretch of road you need more light than those who are used to driving along unlit road....

You mean like those people in 'high class' cars that think that those extra driving lights fitted into the bumper have to be one all the time regardless to the visibility...

It is a fact that high beam headlights increase the line of vision on unlit roads and therefore improve safety. If correctly used (i.e. dipped immediately before approaching vehicles enter the direct line of sight), there is no detrimental effect on the safety of any road user, hence they are a good thing and should be used where appropriate. One could argue that a seat belt isn't necessary if you don't crash, but I'm still going to wear mine :-)
