Mondeo 1996 warning indicators

I have a warning indication on the dash which is not mentioned in the manual and which Ford cannot identify. The warning indicator is located on the right hand side of the dash and is the first indicator in a bank of 5. It looks like a Catalytic convertor with heat arrows coming from it.

Any help would be appreciated.

If the cat overheats (>1000 C, roughly) it gets destroyed, resulting in very high exhaust emissions. Modern cars detect this by misfire (which is the usual cause) and will illuminate or flash the Check Engine light. However, I know some cars of this era had a specific temperature sensor in the cat and, presumably, a specific warning light for it. I had the impression that this was only on vehicles for the Japanese market, but I could be wrong

Thanks for the reply its more informative than I received from Ford locally. I know my Mondeo is an imported model but Ford can't/won't tell me from where. I have checked the cat for any wires or sensors but cannot find any. Thanks again for the feedback.
