MW whistle

I am getting interference when I listen to medium wave. It is a whistle which increases with engine speed. It also happens on LW but the FM reception is fine. It is an OEM Vauxhall CD/Tuner CD500 if that helps?

It is missing an interference suppressant or something? Listening to Five Live or Talk Sport is a nightmare.

Ta muchly,

Phil

In the "Good Old Days" I'd have replaced the suppressor on the alternator. Don't know if it's that simple on more modern cars. Do check the earth on the aerial, and that the radio set has a good earth too.

That sounds like the alternator. But it should already be internally suppressed. It's possible the suppressor has failed, so try adding one between the alternator output and earth as close to the alternator as you can. Also check the earth at the aerial end of the aerial lead.

Noise from alternator. Could be a number of things including bad earth.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately I don't want to go messing about with my alternator and so might have to resort to a garage visit for this one. Grrr arghhh.. hehe

Prepare for a large bill, then, and the probability they still won't fix it. You might do better with a radio installer.
