Early ones had Dunlop brakes, later ones Girling. But both were superb in their day - including excellent handbrakes.
The upper link used to pull out its mounting from the base unit due to rust. Easily fixed, though.

If your brake fluids hot enough for that to make a difference then you'll already have pad fade
Not if you buy decent ones they aren't. The braid over rubber ones exist but not from Earls or Aeroquip.
