Next stupid question - sunroofs

What's the best way to go about diagnosing a leak in a sunroof and fixing it? This is a standard factory fitted manual sunroof on the aforementioned Skoda Felicia 1998 1.9D estate.

Well, they all leak. What is commonly referred to as a sunroof seal is not a seal at all. They all let in water, but this should be channeled away. If you have leakage problems, such as a stained headlining, then it is most likely that the drain tubes are blocked.

Watering can, sit inside car while someone waters the roof.

Don't worry, you neighbours won't think this odd for a Skoda owner ;-)

As regards fixing the leak, it depends where exactly it is. Around the frame seal to the body, try silicone. If the glass to frame seal has failed, you probably will need to buy a new one. Also, check if there is any adjustment on the catch.

Not specific to your car but this might help...

If you look inside the frame attached to the body you should find two holes - usually diagonally opposite in the corners. About 1/2" in diameter. These are the drains, as water gets past the seals. They can become blocked with leaves or similar debris. Try poring water from a watering can down them to check if they're clear.

If they're not, best to find the other end and use a drain cleaning flexible from there - and gently - as they're rubber hoses for most of the run, and clumsy cleaning can detach or puncture them.

I'd first make sure the drain holes are clear.
