price of ford fiesta 1.25 zetec engine for R reg car

Hello, does anyone know how much I should expect to pay for a 1.25 zetec engine for an R reg fiesta? My dear little car keeled over, and the local garage has said they will find and fit an engine for me, but would appreciate it if anyone could tell me how much is a sensible price to expect to pay (can't be as much as the proper ford garage said it would be - =A32,500! the car cost less than that 2 years ago!). The mechanic said fitting it would be =A3150, which doesn't seem quite enough to me - any thoughts? Thanks aeq

£150 for fitting is about right. A price for a recon Zetec can vary a lot depending on how good a job a firm does. The place I'm getting a Pinto engine from for the Capri change everything and only the block , head and crank are original although re-machined. They charge £995+VAT for a standard Zetec although I think that's for the 2L ones as they specialise in performance motors.

Someone already posted a similar thread a little while ago (try a search you might find it). Basically the conclusion was that there a quite a lot of these Mk4 Fiestas out there and it would probably be cheaper to buy another one. You may even be able to get a "younger" one for less than it wold cost you to replace the engine in yours.

I part exchanged my S refgFiesta 1.4 Ghia X a year a go but if I'd have sold it privately it would have struggled to get =A31000 as it was a good runner but had 92k on the clock.

Last time I did something like that, I tried to find (not getting ripped off!) another engine and was quoted upwards of £500 from local 'vehicle dismantlers' Found a complete car for £100, MOT failure in adtrader and swapped the engine over, then sold the good bits and scrapped the remains. almost did it for nothing,
