Not only are they rare, they need particular specialist skills to get the bodywork right.

I'm not against customising the odd easily-available classic; I have plans for my own Standard 8, but not the rare ones.

I think you'd find that doing a proper body job on a car like this would cost as much as importing the proper yank tank, and still wouldn't look, feel or sound right.

One one obvious candidate to me - Nissan Bluebird. (See here:

-shouldn't take too much to make that look like a Bluesmobile!)Still enough around not to worry about trashing it, but old enough to bedirt cheap. Good parts supply and being japanese, should stand up toyour drive if suitably serviced.
