Red paint on new car?

Varies by manufacturer, only VAG seem to suffer nowadays.

Not really. My Mondy is coming up to 5 years old and showing no sign of it.

Nice little car. (Solid) red really doesn't seem to be a problem these days, especially if it has a clearcoat over. Not all manufacturers do clearcoated 'solid' colours though.

But, whilst you are ordering a new one, I'd suggest that you buy a metallic/pearlescent/mica colour. It will assist your resale value, make the car easier to sell and generally be 'nicer'.

And don't forget, the dealer is really quite pushed to sell his cars at the moment, so MAKE HIM GIVE IT (The metallic paint, that is!) TO YOU, otherwise walk out the door towards the next Citroen dealer.

Thanks! The local dealer 'says' he's virtually sold his Jan allocation of the facelifted model which will be coming in in March. He also 'says' they only make £300 profit per car and they sell all the C1s they can. He also 'says' they can only offer the Citroen deals on the car - currently £800 cash-back.

I am possibly being Mr. Gullible here, but I do believe that in the current environment the mini-eco-car sector is the only one that is holding up strongly.

So is it realistic to expect to successfully get the £350 option thrown in free?

If you don't ask, you won't get! The dealer won't refuse to sell you a car if he is unable to meet your request, so it has to be worth asking.

Also worth asking at least one other dealer.

Look, I hate to say this but... they are both made in Kolin, in the Czech republic. The base car is the Aygo, with the 'difference' parts probably sourced from Pug & Citroen's normal suppliers. Therefore, the car is a Toyota, with all the quality characteristics it possesses. The other two are 'Citroenised' and 'Peugeotised' Toyotas. (It is the Yaris that is actually made in France)

For my money I'd buy the Toyota first, the Pug second and the Citroen third. Oh, and I spent over 10 years in the motor industry as a Quality Engineer... (Much of it dealing with TMUK and TMC)

No, all the parts for all three are supplied from the same suppliers.

No, it was designed from the start as a joint venture. The design, production engineering, supply and manufacture are all a joint venture between PSA & Toyota. The petrol engine is a Toyota three-pot, the diesel is a PSA/Ford HDi.

Indeed. But that's a different thing entirely.

Others may find that their local Peugeot or Citroen dealer are better to deal with than their local Toyota dealer, of course - and that really is the only difference.
