Rover 216 SLI ECU fault

I have a Rover 216 SLI with Honda motor, year 1994 automatic transmission. I recently had timing belt and radiator replaced. Now after 5-10 min. drivi ng I get warning "Check Engine" steady light. When I switch off ignition it goes off. I can see the ECU flashing on the right passenger site. All gara ges in The Netherlands failed to diagnose what the error can be. I made a s mall video with my phone from the ECU flashing but I am unable to decide ho w many times is flashing. Could you recommend me how to read the error code or what can I do. Thank you in advance.

The light on the ecm unit (the big lump under the dashboard ) shows what the trouble codes are. They will consist of short or even long and short flashes. To access them just turn on the ignition (do not start engine) and watch the light. Steady light means no fault codes.

I suggest that the first thing you do is to clear all the existing codes by removing the ecm fuse from under the bonnet, which is fuse F4 10amp, remove it for at least 20 seconds and replace it, turn on the ignition and the ecm light should be steady, start the car and when the check engine light comes on there should be trouble codes stored.

Note the flash sequence exactly. EG trouble code 14 would be one long flash for the ten, a short pause, 4 short flashes, long pause, then repeat or show the next trouble code if there is more than 1 trouble code, eventually the sequence will repeat.

When you have the codes post them and I will look them up for you.

Thanks MrCheerful for your reply. Finally I had my car taken to one of the Rover garages in the Netherlands and they diagnosed code 1 Oxygen sensor pr oblem. I had replaced my Oxugen sensor today with an original brand and pro blem is gone. My Rover is running perfectly as before. I do not have "check engine" warning anymore. Thanks for your help.
