Servicing

Honda have just quoted me =A3240 for a 48k service on my 02 Civic, I was

expecting a belt change at this mileage so didn't sound too bad until I

checked what was actually done in the service. Oil, air and pollen filters, oil change and spark plugs basically - no timing belt or anything complex.

Could possibly do this service myself if I had the time. Can anyone recommend a good garage in the West Yorkshire area that will

do the service to manufacturer guidelines - and not charge a fortune?

Alternatively I guess I could get around to doing it DIY in the future

- in this case any parts suppliers for Japansese cars that are recommended?=20

I got a nice little checklist of things which they could have done for extra money (many of which, like you, I rather hoped would have been included). Price was similar.

Cambelt change is scheduled at 72K or 6 years. I may opt for this at the

60K service instead, as the 72K is already a major one. Out of the 3-year warranty, I will be much more inclined to shop around, or see if franchised dealers will drop prices for older models (the one in Chesterfield does, for example).

you have to remember that the air and maybe pollen filters are probably honda only parts, apart from that you can definiatly do the rest easy. it's probably not worth paying this much is it. the air filter for my accord cost 30 quid, took 5 minutes to fit it. depends on if you are going to sell the car soon and want 'full honda service history' whiich will definiatly stop the price from depreciating so much. then again, just keep the receipts for the parts and that might be good enought for most people..

Rubbish. You'll get them at any decent motor factors. All are listed by QH

I read on an oil website that OEM oil filters are generally better. Halfords ones generally don't have anti-drainback valves, so the filter empties when the engine goes off. Is this true?

Startling, innit. I wonder where the marketting department conjure these numbers up from.

When I needed an inlet valve and an exhaust valve for the wife's Clio last month Renault told me they only sold 'em in packs of four inlet or four exhaust - and I'd need two packs, that'll be £250 sir.

£25 for a Citroen pollen filter which is basically a plastic (thin plastic) frame with zigzag paper in it. I think gsf do it for about half that price.

Which is still a mega rip-off.

Depends on the aftermarket maker I guess. Certainly true that people who know about Saabs only fit Saab oil filters.

Bloody hell. I only paid £36 for a K&N direct replacement panel filter and that'll probably outlast the car.

And no, it doesn't make that stupid noise.

I stand corrected ! It's just that no where had it in stock when I tried to get mine.

Thanks for the link - did a search on that and seems all I could come up with were parts for civic models 1999 and earlier - this is for the

2001 onwards model
