Side Hammer

Seen this used on that =A31,000 wheeler dealers show or whatever its=20 called during the week (they buy a car for =A3700 and spent =A3300 fixing i= t=20 up) .

Wouldnt some sort of suction device be better than drilling a hole in=20 the bodywork ? .

Trouble with suckers is they can only exert an absolute maximum of 15psi pull - and that may not be enough. Add to that they don't like sharp radii to which they can't conform and you'll see why people use slide hammers.

The better alternative is to use little studs that weld on the panel, a special slide hammer can then pull on each one in turn, after that, the pins are twisted off and a quick touch with a grinder makes the weld smooth. then normal fill etc.

Up the suction ? .

Bought a hair dryer a while ago that practically blows the fecking head=20 off me in turbo mode - i'm sure reversing the motor on it would pull out=20 any dent :-)

15psi is (roughly) atmospheric pressure. "Suction" is a vacuum. Therefore even if you achieved a complete vacuum, the pressure exerted would not exceed 15psi. Achiveing a complete vacuum is not possible, and an everyday 'sucker' will achieve significantly less than this.

You can't suck harder than 15psi unless you increase the pressure on the other side. Once you've a vacuum you can't have /more/ vacuum.

I see what your saying .

How about the addition of a small electro magnet ? .

Or even , Quick setting glue - with a suitable alternative liquid to turn it to jelly again so it can be wiped off once the dent has been pulled out .

Figure if man can go to the moon there must be a better way of drilling holes in the bodywork .

you can buy a kit called IIRC dentmaster (or something) which uses superglue to pull with little dart like things, together with a frame which bridges the dent. has been on tv shopping channel recently
