Time for antifreeze in my car

i have a 2002 1.6 8v astra estate. do anyone know how much antifreeze i need? and what is the best way to drain the system?

is there anything i should check afterwards for say air blocks? what about the heater ?

Mkae sure it is cold !

Premix it in a bucket, as per the instructions on the bottle - leave heater controls on hot, empty at lowest point (usually at the bottom of the radiator). Fill up again till it's at the right level, and if there are any bleed points use them. Run and check for leaks, let cool and recheck levels. Should be it (I probably missed something someone else will pick up on)

that i should use.

I would remove the radiator and flush it thoroughly, that will solve the draining question, replace the radiator. Then empty between 1 and 2 litres of new antifreeze into the header tank, top up with fresh water (about anither 2 to 3 litres), and start the engine. Lots of glug glug glud as you massage the radiator hoses will force out the air. Then a road run to circulate the whole system.

At laeast that's what I do on my 1994 Astra 1.6GLS (8V)

If not, why not? Antifreeze should be in it all year round. It cannot be stressed highly enough if your car has an alloy head and block that this should be the case.

That's probably because it's not a winter only thing these days but should be used all year round to prevent corrosion. And if the car has been properly serviced you need take no action.

According to Comma the coolant capacity is 6 litres (or 6.5 if fitted with Air con). It says from May 01 use red antifreeze at 50% mix. If it uses red I don't think you can mix that with the green or blue stuff.
