So I wonder how well a dab of grinding paste would actually work?

Years ago when I ran a motorcycle shop a customer brought in a GS1000 head to have new guides, new valves and seats re-cut. The head had been sandblasted in advance of the work. The guides were incredible difficult to remove, taking quite a bit of aluminium with them, the cause was the sand blasting, which had got grit into the sides of the guide/head (on the valve side) which then just dragged all the way out. The answer after the fact was that it should have been bead blasted.

This is very interesting, and I suspect that this product works because it contains thousands of hardened aluminium cubes. It has probably been precisely engineered so that these cubes bunch together/line up to form a structure that inherently resists deformation.

Grinding paste, on the other hand, would just consist of millions of non cubic abrasive particles that are free to move in their own "soup", and would not clump together to form any kind of resistance to being moved around.

I would hazard a guess that after applying this stuff, a few tweaks of the tool would settle these cubes into a state that would effectively fill the gaps with a solid.

It should have been jet washed clean of the sand.

If it had any plugged oil ways, they should have been drilled out and the gallery washed though.

Hellfire, that's bloody useful looking stuff. That sparked off a recollection that I need to find a stockist of Never-Seez - f*ck me, have you seen the price of the greedy bastards who stock it this side of the pond? It's wonderful stuff, far far better than Copaslip ime, and ideal for steel/ally encounters, but alas, my 8oz tin is nearing its end after 30 years. Amazon US suppliers have it cheap, but it's the shipping that kills it.
