toyota specialist: sheffield/ s.yorks?

Hello all. Anyone know of any good (and preferably, cheap) Toyota specialist garages or mechanics in the Sheffield area? I need a cam belt changing on a '94 Celica GT4 and a main dealer has quoted ~£380. Seems a little lumpy to me, but maybe that's the going rate.

Cheers, Jim

In my experience main dealers c*ck up as much as anyone and often see themselves as being above arguing with the lowly customer. They also charge more for their c*ck ups.

I don't know the car, but cam belts cost £20 or so and take about 30 mins to fix. An unusual one might be twice that.

The "belt" _may_ be a lot more than that.

I've got a 2.0 Mondeo petrol, and when you change the belt on that, it's a _really, really_ good idea to change the tensioners & everything associated with it at the same time.

The whole kit costs about 80 quid.

Still doesn't take more than an hour or so to change it.

OTOH, I've heard that some of the Alfas require the engine to come out, because there's zero room to change the belt in-situ.

I was taken aback at the quote and asked why it was so expensive: looking under the bonnet, access to the cambelt looks fairly good and I thought the bits can't be that expensive. Chap told me that it was mainly labour, in fact, about 4-6 hours!!

Cheers, Jim.
