Toyota Starlet 1996 Fan Control

Hi guys,



The fan control will only work on High,all other settings Low etc do not work. Can you give me any ideas where to start with this. Tkx in advance for any help that you can give as its playing hell with the wifes hair on Full Blast Cheers.


There will be a resistor pack with one less resistor than the number of fan speeds. Because the resistors run hot, there is usually a thermal fuse to prevent the thing catching light. It is likely that this fuse has failed. A common reason for this is that the fan motor has partially seized, making the resistors overheat.

Fixing it involves finding the resistor pack, which is commonly mounted near the fan; sometimes the resistors are in the air stream. Once you have done that, replace the pack with a new one.

If availability or cost is a problem, it might be possible to fit a new thermal fuse. The difficulty you will have is that it is not normally a replaceable item; they are often soldered or crimped in. There will also be the problem of identifying the correct replacement by temperature rating. These problems are not always insurmountable however.

I would caution against just shorting the thermal fuse out with a link, apart from briefly for testing purposes!

It will also be worth checking to see if the fan spins freely, and trying to lubricate its bearings if possible.

I don't know where the resistors are mounted on your car; hopefully some kind soul will be along soon with more specific knowledge.

generally the resistor will be in the airflow, in the side of the heater housing under the dashboard, common cause of failure is lack of servicing vis a vi the pollen filter.

Hi My renault megane makes a lot of noise when speeding louder aaround 60 MPH. No noise when stationary. left front wheel gets hot after a long drive could this be a wheel problem? please help cheers
