UK Ford Escort 1.4

Having just returned from a foriegn trip while driving home I heard a noise that can only be described as driving with a flat tyre. On stopping the car and looking around all tyres and wheels appear ok. There is no noise when the vehicle is stationary but starts as soon as you move off any ideas uk mechanics are notorious for mmmmmmm mmmmmmm sounds like could be........ any ideas greatly appritiated

Have you checked the wheel nuts are tight? Have you had a puncture/repairs/servicing lately?

Could be any number of things, and without seeing the car it's impossible to say.

However possibilities might be- Brakes worn Brake backing plate rubbing Something wrapped around a drive shaft Wheel loose Wheel bearing Gearbox fault

Plus many more....

If you drove any distance with loose wheel nuts and a rattling wheel, there's a good chance that either the wheel, wheels studs, nuts, are worn to the extent of needing to be replaced. Mike.
