VW Touran gaiters

My 2008 VW Touran 2.0 TDi DSG has been faultless until the past 2 services. At the 73,000 service it required an outer NS driveshaft gaiter, and today at the 92,000 service the inner gaiter on the same side.

Is this normal?

I don't drive it over rough terrain and although the mileage is quite high, it's mainly motorway. Are their gaiters made of cheese? With my tongue only slightly in my cheek I asked the dealership if I should expect to have this done on every service until the whole set have been changed!

Never had a gaiter fail on any other car run to over 100,000 except an ancient Polo at 178,000 miles.

Cheers.

I've not had to replace a gaiter for years, as my cars are that bit newer now, but had to do them on older VWs around 80-100k miles/10 years.

And its usual that both sides need replacement at the same time.

It's odd the OP has had one outer and the inner on the same side go. I don't think I've ever had an inner one go.

No here either but they do go. Its usually the one that flexes the most (outer).

The only inner one that I have had to replace was a Cadillac Eldorado that's has the 8lt V8 FWD. Big CV's not much flex. What a car.

Thanks Gents. Too late for me to do anything now - but I will check the offside thoroughly before the next service! I trust the dealership, as the service manager is a neighbour and has got nothing to gain and lots to lose by fleecing me. More concerned as to why they failed at a young age.

Just made an inquiry in to why?

It is unusual for them to have such a low mileage when they split and to refer it to a dealer and see if they have a history as it maybe a batch fault in the boots.
