What to check next ? Idle is great - no power & rough under load...

20 year old ford laser - 200,000 kms
4 cylinder 1.6L carburetted

Idle is perfect - but when driving or even just slightly loaded up (park brake on, in gear, let clutch out a bit) - it becomes quite rough, and makes a fair racket.

fault appeared suddenly at the traffic lights last week.

have already done following

new plugs & leads new distributor checked compression with thumb (yep - very rough test) in each cylinder - seems ok no broken valve springs spark on each cylinder ok

any ideas on what to check next ??? Cheers.

Coil? It does sound like an HT 'tracking' issue (breaking down under load). Could possibly be a faulty condenser.
