Windscreen washer mpotor packed up

The windscreen washer motor on my oldish Audi 100 has packed up, or at least there is a very limited flow. This is the type which is separate from the washer fluid reservoir and has two feed pipes - one from the reservoir and the other to the windscreen. Power is definitely reaching the motor. Is it time for a new washer motor, or could there be another explanation? How do such motors handle blockages, for instance? There is no filter in the feed pipe.

Almost certainly time for a new one. YOu can try running it backwards but you'll justy end up replacing it within a few months anyway. (Assuming the pipes aren't clogged, Presumably you've tried it with them disconnected?)

I am not familiar with your vehicle, but the usual system is that the pump is push fitted into a rubber grommet in the water tank, the rubber grommet incorporates a filter, try cleaning that first. usually washer pump replacement is because the pump has physically broken or stopped, they don't get a bit sluggish or weak first.

This system is a little different. The washer motor hangs on the side of the reservoir and there is no push fit into the reservoir.

There's no visible clogging in the pipes, but I haven't tried it with them disconnected. I seem to remember trying to reverse the polarity on the feeds but as far as I recall it wouldn't run at all then.

I would still expect a filter between pump and tank, it may even be on the inlet of the pump.

Yes, I'd certainly expect some kind of filter somwhere, but this arrangement doesn't seem to have one - unless it's inside the pump somewhere, and since it's basically a sealed unit, inaccessible.

sometimes they are just a little tube with a filter end that goes in the stub on the pump

Unless the filter end was removed by a previous owner, I can only see a translucent tube.

Mine didn't have one, neither did the new one.

The problem seems to be with the one way valve situated half way along the windscreen feed. It appears to be partly blocked and is reducing the flow. This appears to be the only "filter" in the system!

And having cleaned out the one-way valve with boiling water, everything works properly as before. I almost bought a new pump - and would have done if German & Swedish had had the right part in stock!
