Why can't anybody fix my Miata?

What year? 1990 or 1991? I think the rest of you know where I am going with this. Crank shaft failing, wobbling crank pulley?

Many different mechanics have said many different things but all have said they don't really know and I will have to spend about $500 for them to try and find out. Also, after tune-ups, it still hesitates/misses especially in overdrive and seems like it's loosing it's get up and go.

I just fixed the vibration/rattle sound under my hood. I found the heat shield on the driver's side of the engine to be loose. Simply tightened the three bolts, and the problem solved. It could be that simple for you too. Jim Jim's Miata Web Page

How old are the plug wires? They last only a limited time.

Before spending $500, check the heat shields as Jim says and check miata.net, eg, see common squeaks... in

I'm going to take these suggestions to one more mechanic. Then I'm going to have to give in.

PS If I knew what plug wires were, I could tell you how old they were LOL

ACK! LOL. Lift up the hood. See the large object in the middle with those round rubber cables leading into it? Those are PLUG WIRES. They do wear out fast. Replace them. :) ~Cissy "Don't be so open-minded your brains fall out of your sock drawer" ?? :-D

May I suggest taking a basic automotive maintenance course? Most colleges offer them, and the knowledge you can get from them is worth far more than the cost of the class. You'll enjoy your baby longer, and will be less of a target for unscrupulous dealers/mechanics (not that all are unscrupulous, but horror stories abound).

That would be very cool but there are not enough hours in the day to learn everything I need to know. One has to prioritize and unfortunately, I'm going to have to trust people when it comes to cars.

Well, ask your mechanic how old the plug wires are and tell him/her to replace them if they are over 30,000 miles. They are the most common cause for poor running of Miatas.
