To you guys it makes sense to have to scroll ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM, sometimes over and over and over again, to see the latest post?! That's ridiculous! Email and it's responses are read 'top posting' fashion by everyone (I deal with) on the planet. Most of us have come to understand that if we want to read the history of the discussion we go to the bottom and work our way up. Why shouldn't newsgroup postings be the same? Lots of people seem to agree with me. Maybe the different news 'readers' have an effect on this too, I'm not sure.

Maybe I should delete all of the prev info in my posts and that would eliminate a top / bottom bias ;-)

I second that emotion! Actually Pat, I normally despise red cars but on the NC, the Copper Red color is a knockout! I don't think the PRHT comes in all the colors though. Isn't it limited? Not sure.

No, people should snip or interleave their responses.

Absolutely NOT! That's only from MSFT's lame email clients and even the abominable Windows Mail will allow configuration to reply at the bottom as is proper.

All of us using decent newsreader *know* that if we want to read the history of a thread we can click on get the parent to a single post or reconstruct the entire thread if needed. Real newsreaders will do that.

It wouldn't eliminate any bias, it would allow you to post properly, or you could just snip the irrelevant parts and post at the bottom or interleaved as is required by proper netiquette.

I don't find either top or bottom posting advantageous when either one is used consistantly. The problem arises when both styles are used in the same thread. Not snipping and deleting properly makes it worse.

If you post through Google groups, it solves both of those problems, by making the default consistant, and hiding old text away. In their 'groups', they default to a top post, and in Usenet it defaults to bottom-posting. The Google interface is not as elegant as using a newsreader, so you choose your poison. I don't know how long Usenet's going to be around. It's been so poorly managed that it makes me sad & angry.

Agreed. I am constantly being told what the rules are, what I am supposed to do and what I am not supposed to do, quite often on things which have little to no importance.

It gets irritating, a lot more irritating than anything to do with usenet. I don't want complete anarchy, but somewhere between that and what most people seem to strive for.

I don't know either. Yeah, the copper is pretty cool, and I almost find the black to be bland for some reason, I like it a lot better on the NA and the NB.

Silver seems to be my favorite NC color so far.

A Miata for those who don't want a Miata, PRTH and auto:

I am not looking at autos, but I don't see how a PRHT takes anything away from the car being a roadster/Miata.

The PRHT isn't even visible when it is dropped. I might actually be more inclined to drive it top-down than my 1991 model because it is so easy to raise and lower and has no boot to mess with.

The top mechanism on all NCs is so much better than our cars, so easy to raise/lower that the PRHT is almost unnecessary.

I can't argue with that, I wish that either NC top style was adaptable to the NA and/or NC.

It's not just the physical movement / work involved, the PRHT can better get you 'away from it all' when you so desire. Sometimes after hundreds of miles top down, or in heavy rain and such, I could dig that! Being able to hear the music better on occasion of top up driving AND there's the whole security thing! I never lock my soft top but all of us have heard the horror stories of stupid criminals who cut the soft top open w/o even trying to open the door! Leaving ANYTHING in the interior of my car (trunk included because that IS NOT secure in any way) is purely a leap of faith in humanity. So far, humanity has not disappointed me on this (if no other) issue! I'd like to feel that my luggage in the trunk (camera and radar detector and such) really IS secure. To me, that's no small part of the equation.

I like having a roadster and I am not trying to make the car something it is not,but if I can have the best of both worlds in this one specific area, why not? I really like how all 3 generations of Miata look with a hardtop in place, but I will never deal with attaching and removing one unless I am in a place that receives significant snow and then it would stay on for months at a time.

That said, I can completely understand why someone would want the ragtop instead of the PRHT. It just seems to be my preference to have the optional hardtop that goes with me.

No question that the NC ragtop is awesome, and I think that Mazda should have done that top-down style by the 2nd generation model, with the outer portion always facing the sun and rain and no boot.
