The M103 2.6 has more HP and is "smoother" than the M102 2.3. Although the W201 chassis wasn't designed for the six cylinder, MB needed a car to compete with other maker's six cylinder cars and shoehorned the motor in, moving the radiator forward and making the front about 3 cm longer than before. With the extra weight, MB gave the 2.6 the brakes from the 16 valve/W124 and different springs up front. Given the age of the car, you'll want to check all the rubber suspension pieces, the timing chain and belt tensioners and see if the a/c system is in good shape and/or been converted to R134a.

Yes! Check the friggin Climate control system carefully. The blower motor should be silent when it runs without squealing. The pushbutton climate control unit should work perfectly. All the windows should roll up an down. All the door locks should work with a key and also by the air pump. Even the gas door has a lock on it inside. KH

I have a 190e with 95K on it. It is just a great, simple car with no problems at all.My SL600 though is a constant pain in the butt. Not a problem car, it is just so complex.
