1991 500sl real bouncy when hiting bumps,have hydrolic system,shocks are not leaking,seem to be in good shape,why so bouncy

because your accumulators are blown. also known as "air cells" etc.

they are what enable the hydraulic piston in the struts to contract, since liquids are not compressible, inside the cells a high pressure charge of nitrogen in a bladder is placed in line with each strut. When the bladder is compromised and the charge released into the system, it is purged out and then becomes rock solid.

It takes two of them. Do it BEFORE you blow out the rear struts. Otherwise a couple hundred dollar repair becomes a couple thousand dollar repair!

It's the shocks. They don't have to leak to be bad. Replace them with the correct new Bilsteins (nothing else) and you'd get your ride back.
