I have a'79 MB 240d.
Someone removed the ac compressor prior to my purchasing it.
What do I need to get the ac running again?

A new compressor would be a good start.
But AC systems left open have a nasty habit of corroding - especially something 27 years old. Have an AC specialist look at it and let you know whether its possible to salvage.
