Corrosion Warranty

Hi all. Does anybody have any idea on the length of warranty MB gives for corrosion? I have looked through my hand books and nothing there, i will call my local dealer tomorrow (just thorght id ask in the mean time). The car is 5 years old and all 4 wheel arches are starting to rust, it looks like there are rivits or spot welds which are rusting.

Thanks in advance Simon

Let me guess....W210...they are notorious for rust. You probably have a 5 yr warranty...but they will replace parts if you insist. MB knows these cars rust BADLY.....Look all over, remove panels and inspect under the rubber moulding on the doors. You will find a lot of rust....esp. on the W210 body. Look EVERYWHERE... even under the hood sound proofing. remove ALL the panels in the trunk, even the one on the lid!

Call the Corporate customer service number and bitch them out... They will ask you to contact a local dealer who will look the car over and decide if they should repair it (which they should).

I take it this is a W210... I have a W210 that rusted prematurely on the suspension mount. Very sad when you consider that this car is a Mercedes Benz.

i think its a w202. c class. Get this for customer service... I called my local MB main dealer and spoke to the service manager.I nicely explained the problem and was told the guy who delt with paint work and corrosion was on holiday and could I call back on the 30th, he didnt ask any details like who i was, my phone number what car etc etc. LOL Its good to know Customer Service is alive and well! Thanks for the responce Simon ( a rusty C class Driver )

Buy a LEXUS next time. I am, and I have had MB since the 80?s and this is my last one. My neighbour was also a MB guy for years and had it with Mercedes service, attitude and declining quality, Bought a Lexus

2 months ago and reallly loves it.......and he?s not the sorta guy to try and rub your nose in it. I get me new Lexus in Sept.

It is a sad state of affairs but I really do think that MB service is going down. There is a local specialist here in Atlanta that worked for two dealers in Atlanta. He told me that the reason that he left is because he got tired of being a sales man and being forced to sell things to customers that they don't need.

I own a W210 that rusted in the suspension area, I was shocked to see that it had rusted so badly. That said and in all honesty rust is not a new problem for Mercedes Benz. I own a W114 and a W116 and those two models sure know how to rust.

If they do they didnt to mine. Ill be changing my car in February, i will certainly not be having another MB, for a number of reasons. Rusting after just 5 years also alloy wheels are corroding Silly costs for servicing. Never been less than £800 General reliability, broken down twice, interior trim braking etc. Bad dealer customer service Quite sad really as i ( in general ) like their cars, you cannot beat looking down the bonnet and seeing the MB badge.I cannot justify to myself spending premium car money on a not so premium car ( in my opinion), a car rusting after just 5 years is not accepable in this day and age also putting up ( becouse thats what you have to do ) with shocking customer service from dealers. Sorry to rant on but it really bugs me.

Which way will you jump?

I actually thought that there is a long corrosion warranty. I'd need to check in the handbooks.

Are in London/Birmingham/Manchester? They have the new dealership structure there and you should not be having bad service.

PS. What surprises me is that the service manager needs assistance to tell you about the corrosion guarantee.

Also, if you bought from new you should have the info in your papers, together with Mobilo Life details etc.

All I know about this is that they started this process in 1984.When and if they stopped.....?

I live in Nottingham, yes i had the car since new but cannot find any referance to length of corrosion warranty in my hand book. I appreciate my car going rusty is not the end of the world to a main dealer, but to have to wait 2 weeks to speak to someone who (i hope) can deal with this problem is quite frankly a silly senario. I cannot imagine a large supermarket chain going without beans becouse the buyer is on holiday. I apologise if it seems i am slateing MB on a MB newsgroup, honestly i am not, i am sure there are many very fine MB cars( i like the new cls) on the road, but a situation like this is bad, which is a great shame becouse i do (for its faults) like the car. Jump ship? again i dont wont to mention other brands on this group. I may go back to the other German marque or possibly a Jag--r X type. Ill stop moaning now:) Simon

Don't worry about mentioning other brands here or slating Merc cars and dealers. This is the stuff of the discussions here. Just review the threads.

I agree that what you have apparently been told is ridiculous. Is it a Merc-owned dealer or an independently owned one? Either way I would contact MB UK in Milton Keynes, e.g. marketing director.

Is the Nottingham dealer the one from which you bought? They should have your records and should be able to comment about your guarantee terms.

The trouble with saloons of other brands is there is no sight at the end of the bonnet to show you the way...

In fact, talking about mentioning other brands, I suggest you murmur BMW (as a possible next car) to the Merc people if you continue to get no joy.

Dori, thanks for the conversations:) I live in Nottingham but use the Derby Main ( i belive) Dealer as its easier to get to, only this dealer has ever touched the car. It just sounded to me as if i was being palmed off as its "only" rust and they couldnt be bothered. As i said earlier they never asked my name or car details. I wonder if a polite email to MB milton keynes to ask the same question would help. Either way i need to get to the dealer as i now have a new problem:( the alarm keeps going off for no reason, it only happens at night though, any ideas? I do agree about the 'sight' at the end of the bonnet, funny you said it as i had a work collegue with me today and she said the same thing. I am tempted to go back to BMW, i still have the same 3 series i got in 1997 the mrs drives it around now, to work and the school run, 160000 miles no rust at all and only 1 break down ever which was 4 weeks ago when the cat disintgrated to me thats the difference in quality between the two cars. But i also like the Jag. Thanks for info Simon A rusty noisey c class driver

If the car was registered after 1998 then you have a 30year warranty provided the MB service history is there.
