"This an important message about your automobile warranty" - AARGH!

We're on the do not call list, but we still receive these recorded messages a couple of times a week. I have been tempted to stay on the line and talk about an extended warranty on my

84 Capri, but, I just hang up the phone.

It's legal for companies that you had dealings with to call you. Do not call list has to do with random telemarketers selling Viagra and such. You might be able to contact these shmucks and have your number removed though. Or try alt.call.remove.

Yes. I made a post about this the other day for someone. First the company making the calls is a separate company who for some reason has been getting away with this crap for several years now. They started with the credit card scam and the recordings of "Hi, I'm Heather with account services." This company spoofs caller ID and will instantly hang up if you say close to the wrong thing. The warranty or credit card company will claim innocence because they only take in coming calls. You know they are in cahoots though. Three sites here:

Is the first and I'll paste my post from earlier in the week about the other two.....

Oh you get those too? Here are a couple of sites you will really enjoy. There are MANY warranty "companies" but only a small hand full of actual dirtbags and one of them is being poked at unmercifully by the AG in his state. The site gives evidence collection tips and a form to fill out after you gather all the info LOL. And another site by the spoof card dirtbag who says his new service will put a total stop to you receiving calls with the CID blocked, I ASSume that means also spoofed calls.

The interesting part about these calls is if you stay on the line, and when a real person answers, you ask "who's calling please" - they always hang up. Does not compute for me. Dick

First off, if you've recently done business with them, they can legally call you. Also, if they are a political group or certain charity groups, they can call you. If you think you got a case against them, stay on the line and get all the info you can about them. Names of employees, contact numbers, employee numbers, date, time of the call all helps. Then, report the SOBs. Go to the "do not call" official website and report them. (Google the site to get info) I recently did this about two weeks ago to an outfit that sounds suspiciously similar to yours.

So you can not find out who they are.

Sounds like the same deal in the link you posted.

That's why you have to use social engineering to get their information. Last time when I hung up he called back, I just said "I hung up because I have enough information for the FTC, FCC and the Missouri Attorney General." :-P

Another way to get rid of them is to be like me, I just tell about how I would love to get an extened warranty on my 21 year old Mustang with over

300,000 miles. That way they will put YOU on THEIR do not call list.

They are scum hustlers and must die. One must play the game and get to the bastards that are selling the warranty. The FCC and FTC are not doing their job.

But you didn't, or they would not have called me today.

I didn't what? I most certainly did turn over their info. The fact that the felons are still calling is not *my* fault.
