First impressions of 1999 E300TD

Got my first ever diesel and MB last month, a 1999 E300 Turbodiesel. I must say my impressions of a diesel-powered car has changed dramatically. This car has amazing pickup and yet gives excellent fuel mileage (about 35 mpg on highway, 30 mixed driving). The car is very quiet at speed. I am very impressed with the flexibility of this engine and the handling of this car.

The 3 litre inline-6 engine makes 176 hp and 244 lb-ft. The car also has a 90 litre tank (~24 gal) giving it terrific range on the highway. Sounds terrific under acceleration. The 5-speed auto shifts seamlessly.

So far, I am very impressed with this car. Hope to keep it for a long time. Any recommendations towards increasing the life of this car would be most welcome.

I need to replace tires soon. Mike "Rotor" Nowak recommended Kumho 215-55-16" tires.

I've been happiest with the michilen mxv4 energy tires, change the oil regularly and you'll get many mile out of your car

There is no substitute for a good pair of Continentals. If you want it to last, Pamper it to within an inch of it's life!
