vibration and weak at low speed 94 e320

Apr 06, 2006 2 Replies

i recently noticed my e320 sedan vibrating on idle, a lot of people said it was the engine mounts but i discovered something else going on. there's a sign that came on in my dash, a big circle with 3 dashes on both left and right side. im suspecting since it's a 6cyl that it was a distributor problem. so i inspected the plugs, 5 & 6 cylinders are oil fouled. i replaced all the plugs and the vibrations went away for a hundred miles but came back again. now it's even worst on idle. it's like a diesel now. any ideas

Broken head gasket at back of engine - at #5 and #6 cylinder.

You may now find lube oil in the coolant and / or coolant in the lube oil - a confirming symptom.

These straight sixes are known to break their head gaskets after about

150K miles. It could be from the differing coefficient of expansion of the cast iron block vs. the all aluminum cylinderhead. Many cycles of expansion and contraction in 150K miles - overheating also kills head gaskets.

There's nothing else to do but remove the cylinderhead, check the head and block for flatness and install a new gasket. Cost of ownership.

The signal on the dash may be totally unrelated and indicate worn brake pads. Check your manual.

wow, that could also be why sometimes the radiator light is on at times but not as bright as the others. thanks a lot TG
