When I engage the overdrive after starting to drive a cold engine and gear box car it works perfectly for a few miles until it disengages itself as the gear box oil becomes hot. Cleaning the solenoid helps for a while but the problem persists. Any advice would be appreciated. David

You may need to ohaul the OD unit and replace all the O'rings so that there is no pressure drop. You can also connect a pressure gauge to the OD and see what pressures its working at.
