Dealership killed my MINI

My husband and I went to Baron MINI in Kansas City this week to have the strut bolt recall done and have the computer upgrade for the first-gear stutter issue. Well, that was Thursday and we're back in Tulsa but the MINI is still in KC. Seems they fried my computer. They sent us home in a BMW

325i, and that's great, but we're expected to go back to KC next Saturday to pick the MINI up. That is if it's fixed by then. And it's a 5-hour drive one way.

What do you think they should do for us? I'd like for them to just come get their BMW and bring me my car, but I don't know if that's gonna happen. I think maybe they should at least meet us in Joplin. Or, if we have to go all the way back to KC, should they not pay for our hotel, gas, and meals? What should I ask for/demand? I have been all sweetness and light so far, but I want to be ready should it go sour on me.

Opinions? Thoughts? Experiences?

The fact they gave you a 325i as a replacement shows they are willing to keep their customers happy in my book (Not a cheap car) so there is no harm in pushing to see if they will go for the home pickup. They said it was their fault so they are more likely to go out of their way for you. If they say no then try the half way location as this then looks like you are willing to compromise.

Just a thought.

Angie,

Be happy they provided you with a loaner and forget about trying to get hotel and other ammenities out of the dealer -- Think about the free miles you are putting on the loaner and not your MINI. If they had to pay that for everyone that lived more that 50 miles from the dealer, your MINI would cost more than the loaner BMW. Not living in a big city has many advantages, but being near a MINI dealer is not one of them -- I know I live

+100 miles from any sizable Texas city.

In my book, the fact they gave her a 325i shows only they are a BMW dealer and that was the car they had available.

Yeah, I've thought about it and they *are* treating us as well as can be expected. I wouldn't mind at all a drive to Joplin to swap out -- but to drive all the way to KC and back in one day is a bit rough.

Thanks! Angie

And even when you're given a nearly $40,000 car to drive, it's still a disappointment when you're a MINI driver.

How about laugh at you for wanting the first year of a car that's never, ever been produced before--and wanting it so badly that you'd buy one even though the nearest dealer is 5 hours away.

I'd remind them that it takes 5 hours each way not counting the time you will spend in KC and try to get a room out of them.

Read your manual. There is information in there about road warranty. It says something about if you break down so many miles from home that they pay for your hotel, etc., etc. . . .

Read my last post...they are actually bringing the car to me via flatbed truck! I didn't have to ask or get mad or anything.

And, technically, I didn't "break down". It was in for service (recall) so there's probably a loop-hole there. I don't think I could go to California for service and say, oh, by the way, here's my hotel bill...
