On-board computer glitch?

Hey all,

Has anyone experienced this?

The setup: I'm in New England of the USA. My MINI is housed in an attatched garage where the ambient temperature never gets really cold.... don't know precisely what temperature but not much less than 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Issue: After starting my MCS and leaving the garage, within about 30 seconds I hear a "beep" and the on-board computer display (the window just below the tachometer) flashes for maybe 20 seconds or so and then all seems normal.

I couldn't find anything about this in the manual so I am wondering if anyone here knows anything about this issue.

Thanks, Blues

It is only 50 inside, but what about outside? That is the warning that the roads could be icy. Happens when the outide temperature falls below 35(?) degrees, each time the car is started or when it first falls to that temperature.

Freaked me out the first time it happened. And it doesn't happen often here in South Carolina!

37(f) or 3(c) (or below) and it will beep, and your temp display will also flash.

Yep, mine does it as well when freezing temp is around. Didn't know it was going to do it either until it did it.

Thank you all for that comforting information :)

I should have posted the question here BEFORE I re-read the entire manual. Could it be that it actually is in the manual and I missed it twice???

Anyway, thanks again Blues

My 1988 BMW M3 did the same thing. When I first heard it, I noticed the outside temperature indicator was flashing 36°, but I didn't uderstand why it would flash then. I remembered the road caution signs that say, "Bridge Freezes Before Road Surface", so I figured that must be the temperature when the road starts to freeze. I looked it up in my owners manual, and that's what it said. When it happened in my Mini, I knew what it meant, although I was surprised that the Mini had that feature.
