rear shocks -difficult?

Hi all,

Just wondered if the rear shocks are a bitch to change. was thinking of upgrading the ones fitted as I think they on the way out but I sure I read somewhere that you have to take the fuel tank out to get at the back ones. Could that be right? any advice appreciated as always!!

The right-hand one is easy to replace, but the top fixing for the left-hand one is hidden by the fuel tank.

That said, it isn't difficult to get the fuel tank out of a mini. You should be able to just take off the bolts holding it in place with the strap and then swing it around to get a socket in to the mounting. It isn't like welding where you want the tank right out and have to drain it.

Dead easy, undo bolt securing tank securing band & move tank out the way, leave the fuel pipe on & sender wire / wires, a little soapy water round the filler neck helps it slide through the rubber seal, remove the fuel cap also, best to do it when tank is near empty as easier to move,

And if you can check the condition of the pipe coming of the tank as it can go hard and crack when you move the tank. Which is a nightmare on your own

As other posters have already confirmed how and what to do, thought I would suggest starting with a empty tank, 1/2 socket to remove the tank strap, and a small length of fuel pipe, as you might as well change it while your in there, when the tank is out of the way, the shocky is easy, should take all of 30 to 40 mins, for both rear shocks, Fitzy
