How about prying yourself away from the computer, go to the dealer, and sit in one? No one can really say if a given model would be comfortable for you except you.

I'm 6'4" and it's by far the easiest car I've owned for getting into and out of. Even dear old Dad found it extremely easy to get in and out -- and he's 83.

Thanks for saving me the trouble of replying (in like manner). So many of us ask advice from strangers a continent away (who may or may not know what they're talking about) when the easiest and quickest method is finding out for oneself. Ergonomics is such a subjective thing ... I rather liked the style of the Chrysler PT Cruiser (outside of the abominable gas mileage) and found out all about it when we rented one for a week while on a trip to the midwest. But if I'd asked around about it, the responses from owners would have ranged from "the greatest thing since sliced bread" to "Never again". Some things have to be tried out by the prospective buyer, and all the consumer surveys and opinions of people cannot make up for your own impressions.

And unless you live far from a town, there's a Toyota dealer usually within easy driving distance.

I recently upgraded from a 91 Tercel LE to a 07 Corolla CE. It's easier to get in and out of and there is way more headroom inside.

My son leased an Echo (much the same as a Yaris) a few years ago. While the car was roomy, solid and very reliable, it just didn't handle the same as my Tercel. I have to say, the new Corolla drives and behaves just like a Tercel's big brother. Side by side, the Corolla is only marginally larger, taller and not as close to the ground.

My only complaint so far is the slight optical distortion in the windshield glass.

We have a Yaris Liftback. It has huge doors. My wife was in a crash where a driver of a minivan struck her on her Honda Scooter and put her in a wheelchair and hospital bed for 12 weeks with a pelvis injury. She had to use a slide board to get from one place to another. The Yaris' seats are the same height as a wheelchair seat, so sliding in and out was easy especially with the big doors. I am not that tall (5"8") but I do find the car very comfortable, especially it being so small.

I could post the Consumer Reports shoulder/headroom/legroom numbers for the Yaris sedan or hatchback if it would help.

Without knowing numbers for the Tercel however, it might be useless. I can say the Prius front seat is not a lot roomier than the Yaris, and the Prius seems quite roomy inside. (The Yaris back seat sux.)

Bob thanks for that info, and Bill thanks for offering to post the numbers, but after looking at the Consumer Reports web site, there seems to be a fair amount of info available there right now, and I think I'm just going to take a one month subscription while I research this out.

When I bought my Tercel one of the things that swung it for me was that it was very highly rated in the Canadian Lemon-aid car guide.

After doing some research I'm thinking the Matrix might be a better choice size wise, however, Lemon-aid hates them, claiming they are not as reliable as the old Tercel, or the new Yaris, which they love.

I did actually sit in a Yaris a couple of months ago, but it was only for a minute or two, and I wasn't looking for a car at the time, so I wasn't really paying much attention, and yes obviously I will test drive both.
