This is a generic question. Is the EGR valve always open in the cars that have one?
Nacho bellowed in an authoritative tone:
The EGR valve returns exhaust gases back into the combustion chamber to reduce combusion temperature and hence oxides of nitrogen. This also reduces engine power. EGR occurs under certain throttle, manifold air pressure, coolant temperature, RPM, and a few other items.
A rough approximation might be 1/3 throttle, warm engine, >2000 RPM.
