Motor Swap

What are the complications and what price should be expected when swapping a motor between a 2.0L 1993 DOHC Eclipse GS and a 1.8L 1994 SOHC Eclipse GS? The older motor has only 60000 miles on it, and i'm looking to swap them out, but i don't want to be screwed or ripped off.

You need the

4G63 engine (obviously) ECU (the 1.8 is different) air filter and various brackets from the donor car a variety of emmisisons sensors and solenoids from the donor car

  • a workshop manual that includes the wiring schematics, because while the cars are quite similar, the harness is not the same, and you will have to do a significant quantity of mods to retrofit the 4G63.

If the 4G63 has REALLY done only 60,000 miles, that's 6,000 per year, which is very low. While the engine is out, you should replace the cam and balance belts, the waterpump, the belt tensioner bearings if needed, maaybe front and rear crank seals.
