They used a Chrysler manufactured transmission. They can last if you do regular maintenance which basically means changing the fluid and filter every 30K miles and absolutely positively using only the correct fluid without additives. My 1991 3000GT SL has 128K original miles and the trans (knock on wood) is smooth as silk. I am the second owner and know the first only changed the fluid once at about 80K miles before I got the car. When I dropped the pan it was full of sludge and badly needed a good cleaning.
3.0L, especially early model years also has head/valve seal problems causing oil consumption and a lot of noise until it warms up. Block and lower engine are pretty solid though. This is definitely not a car for anyone who can't afford the maintenance or is not mechanically inclined.Bob
