Shogun Cold start

Just bought a 1994 Shogun 3.5 V6 and it does not like to start from cold. The engine fires up then dies unless you rev it for a short time and then it is fine. But if left for any length of time the same thing happens.

Any ideas for a new owner?

Check that the two wires to the coolant temp sensor are undamaged and making good contact. One wire should have +5v, the other is ground. The sensor's output is what the ECU uses to set the timing and mixture on start. If its not connected or faulty, its hard to start.

Also might be a partially clogged fuel filter.
