A nice balance of both is nice :o)
A nice balance of both is nice :o)
I had one with less power in my sierra. It D E S T R O Y E D lots of "tuned"
400, 550bhp cosworths on the strip. Its not peak power that counts Its the AREA under the power curve, and how accessible the power is.I once turned up at york raceway, with my towcar. (V8 Sierra Salloon + home made N2O) and unhooked my trailer (mobile dyno with drag bike in) and signed on for the run what you brung thing on the saturday befor race day (sun).
I chose to run my car for a laugh as there was a real clever smug guy with a fancy 4x4 cosworth saphire with huge race turbo, go faster stripes, huge wheels, etc etc... He had loads of hangers on too. Mine just looked like a sad old 1.6L saloon car with a tow bar, + set of old motorsport 8 inch wide
13 inch wheels on... Complete with Colway 205/60/13 remoulds...When I drew alongside him in the pairing lanes he was smirking...
I was facing backwards mind... Dunno how that happened.
Him and his mega expensive one off 550bhp (plastered all down both sides) cosworth, and his fancy race overalls was talking and laughing at my "poor" car.
I left my tailgate open, it was full of tyres and tools for my bike on the sun. It was hot. The real reason was to keep the bottle at a nice temp.
You couldnt see the nitrous bottle as it was covered in junk... (heavy grip givving junk...)
I let my tyres down a bit, to 10/15 psi.
Whe we left, I think I ran 13.7 or 13.4. Never saw the tit in the cossi until the pit.
They were not lauging as much then other than his mates at him!
Three more "goes" against my old tow car and he gave up.
There is more to this draging lark than meets the eye...
Whatever happened to that Sierra? I want it :) (yours, not the other one :) )
Its dead Jim....
(in Belguim somewhere after being used for drug running or something after I sold it on.)
In news:n6qdndyMKY5uc snipped-for-privacy@pipex.net, Vamp decided to enlighten our sheltered souls with a rant as follows
My old Cossie did better than a 13.
Wrong, wrong, and bloody wrong too - petrol is expensive over there.
Huh?
I presume tax on petrol is lower so the actual cost of it before tax is not as low as it is here or are you arguing some other technicality?

Damn, I forgot "relative to this time two years ago."
When Dad and I filled his convertible (Porsche 944 S2, heh), I remarked that we were paying $2.54 or so per gallon.
Not so long ago it was half that. :-/
Teal'c: "Dr Jackson's preliminary electroencephalogram proved anomalous" O'Neill: "I dare you to say that again"
Yep, but you miss the point. It was only my tow car...
And it did run 12s later on (years later on) with more nitrous, but I wanted a smooth easy to drive cheap tow car.
And, if I was bothered I could easily go faster because that old V8 is in an extremely low state of tune, and is very strong... 800bhp woth of nitrous has been used on them! (Ask Trevor Langfield! I was there...)
My bros saphire V8 sierra (I built - he poor 17 year old student...) was much faster. Different purpose. It had double the nitrous for a start... And bigger bores, forged high comp pistons, decent revvy cam, solid lifters, etc. It ran easy low 12 sec quarters... And kept busting its expensive cossi diffs...
Very funny!
Made oi larf, thanks.
Amuses me when I get a boy racer pull up to the right of the Fraud Exploder at traffic lights and do the "rev the nuts of the engine" thing. I put the autobox into third, which on the Ford means it's locked into third for use on snow. Then accelerate very, very slowly when the lights change. This makes a nice burbly noise from the engine rather than a high rev scream and the Ford just gently keeps pace then pulls away. Usually leaving the boy racer some distance behind without really trying.
One of these days I'll pluck up the courage to put nitrous on it. One day.
Must have been a bloody strange thought process:
"What shall I use for drug running?" "What about a V8 Sierra, that'll blend in nicely on the Autobahn?" "Bloody good idea..."
Well it looked stock but for the wheels, and tailpipe..
And the almighty rumble :D.
