When I was 14-15, she found she had Cervical Cancer. We survived that as a family. Now it looks like it has waited more than 20 years to hit back.

Is it *really* worth the hassle?

We considered it when my dad died, 'cos they should have diagnosed his condition many months before it killed him - however, on reflection, we decided that shit happens and that no-one is perfect. It's just that, if me or you make a mistake, it generally doesn't result in a death.

Even so, it's just a 'shit happens' situation.

Why does everyone jump on the 'compo' bandwagon when something goes wrong? - if it was carried through to the average person's working life we'd all be bankrupt.

TBH I reckon it's worth doing on principle. Unless people complain, this sort of thing can happen again and again.

But it *will* happen as it's human nature to make mistakes. Unless we can erradicate all human errors things like this will continue to happen.

I can see the point in complaining, but actively seeking compensation doesn't do anyone any favours.

Seriously, do you think that claiming compensation will improve the above, or make a worse?

Oh I agree there are some very good doctors and nurses out there. But they are held back by procedures and that is why it took 18months to sort anything.

I know that manchester hospital staff are well supported and trained and I know that the Rob Jones is a specialist place.

but Leighton Hospital(well known for being a shit hole) even failed to swab for MRSA even though the place has had multiple outbreaks, when transfering her to the Rob Jones, even though the Rob Jones is known throughout the industry as being MRSA free. She had to be isolated and swabbed when she arrived and was found to be heavily contaminated but luckily not infected by it.

Who knows. Different budgets and different depts. And insurance covers against negligence but doesn't medicine.

I get the impression that Carls parents have lost out quite a bit through this, with his dad having to cut down hours and his mum being unable to work. Compensation isn't going to make any miracles happen, but it can make life easier.

I just feel very uneasy about the whole thing. Advances in medical science have left us (the world, in general) expecting miracles all the time. The harsh reality is that things like this happen. It's no-one's fault when they do - it's just life.
