well cars back up and running and the alternator isnt charging
changed the alternator for a new un still no joy
continuity checked on the wiring as well as earthing bar.

anyone care to suggest another possible cause btw the lil excitor wire thing is only showing 5.6 volts if that makes a difference and yes the warning light is working fine ;)
Could be a bad earth, get an ohmeter and check the resistance from tha alternator casing to the battery -ve.
Vx's of this era have the Alternator rubber mounted on the engine- i.e. insultated from the engine, and there is a separate earth strap which you should check.
