engine misfiring

Dec 28, 2003 2 Replies

Hello guys,

What does the term misfiring mean? Does it mean the air/fuel mixture is ignited at the wrong time of the cycle eg: halfway during compression or exhaust stroke? Or does it mean the cylinder doesn't fire at all?

Thanks.

In laymans terms, yes yes and yes.

No combustion, incomplete combustion, or combustion at the wrong time (though this might be termed spitting back or back firing depending on circumstance)
