Fireforce jet car...

... amazing.

Hampshire Pagaent of Motoring was on this weekend, about 3 miles down the road from us, so decided to pop along today. Met a few guys from the MR2 Driver's Club and got some membership forms for us. Saw loads of tasty cars, but car of the day has to be the Fireforce jet car. They did a static display in the little arena - basically covered the grass in water, tied the car to stakes in the ground, plus a 9 tonne military tow truck, fired her up and gave it some welly. Fantastic sight! Just looking into booking tickets for the Flame and Thunder show at Santa Pod in November to see them in action properly, rather than tied to a field!! Got a s**te vid from my phone if you wanted to see what I was on about.

Other highlights included a stuntman team setting each other a light and blowing shit up, cars like GT40s, a few Hendy Ford rally cars, some crazy kit cars, lots of old Bitish stuff like Jags, SD1s, Stags, Minis etc, loads of nice Capris including a Rover V8 one and a massive autojumble. All in all a great day out. And next time there's a similar event we're hoping to get our MR2 on the club stand :)

Plus, to top things off the Mazda is going on Thursday, the hardtop is selling well on ebay, the Sierra's sold on ebay and still has a few days left, I've found a tidy 360 GLT, and have also aquired a garage for free out the back to work on it in. Result! :)

MR2 drivers club are a bunch of zip up slipper pipe smoking old bastards! there idea of a meet is a sunday roast down the local old man's pub talking about anything but cars! there JAE stand was the whole of 3 cars LOL!

best club IMO is imoc and the MR2MK1 club! MR2OC is ok but only if you're well into you're neons :)

still sounds a good day out to me!!!

Sounds better than the usual Jap meet - standing around a multi-storey or retail park car park.

Well there was about 8 or 9 mk1s plus about the smae in mk2s and 1 mk3, and when we were talking to them they were up for a prize for the best owners club stand. And bear in mind its for the other half not me - she doesnt want to stand around talking about engines in a car park at night. Which is exactly why it appealed to her. We were talking to one of the (younger) guys who I knew of from IMOC (and stranegly enough a Volvo forum as he previously had a 340) and he said there are few quite a few older members but they're all very nice and willing to help which is exactly what 'er indoors wants.

We might go to the next IMOC meet to meet the other local owners, but I think the drivers club will be more what we want. The MR2mk1 club doesnt have much going on down our way, but the MR2DC seems quite active.

It was indeed

ah fair enough yeah the DC is ok if you wanna talk more than just forged pistons and what PSI you can safely run on a rogue chargecooler :)

I'm a great fan of Fireforce. They wheel them out all the time at Santa Pod. Fireforce 2 managed 0-336mph in about 5 seconds this year. Imagine that!

It's really something else to watch. I was on a camera crew and had to film FireForce on the hottest day of 2003 (and all summer was really hot if you remember) and was stood about five feet away from it with a big heavy TV camera on my shoulder. When it did the afterburner blasts it almost sent me flying - no idea how the crew who stand about 2 feet away manage to stay upright! (Actually once the dude with the dreds spun round and fell over). Needless to say the footage I took probably wasn't the best but the production team made it look arty :)
