Got knobbled speeding

I would have challenged that, The cameras take two pictures 0.5 s appart and show the difference travellled. It would be hard to prove you travelled the distance of 32mph rather than

I thought the 10% + 2mph (some people say 3mph) was only ever a guideline, and if they're feeling particularly shitty, they can prosecute you for 31mph in a 30 zone as long as they've got evidence.

i got done for 33 in a 30, mobile camera - nicely painted black - nicely hidden - no warnings as id just come out of the junction in my road, they really are sneaky at placing mobile cameras in my area - eg just after a bridge with no warnings.

As an offside.- I hear there are people who go around destroying Cameras? Heard about them numerous times. Anybody have any info or a link?

Cheers.

My three points were for 33 in a 33. mobile camera no warnings, parked down a side street with the "police man" stood on the street with the tripod.

I appealed because...

no warnings

3mph over speed limit = speedo error??

because I can.

Surprise surprise it got rejected (unless i took it to court and we all know what would have happened) because...

As long as there is one of those speed camera signs within a TWO MILE RADIUS then your counted as "warned"

no real reason given for any of my other points.

But what they didn't tell her was a third option existed, refuse to pay the fine and have the case dropped before it went to court.

Still, if people admit guilt and accept the fine, that's up to them. I would generally want to see the evidence first and have them prove the case, then I would pay that fine.

I've heard of someone who paid a NIP of 34 mph in a 40 zone. Not exactly the sharpest knife in the cutlery drawer, but you do meet them. It's hard to imagine what they thought would happen in court had they refused the FPN, to the extent that they wanted to avoid this experience. Not that it would have, anyway.

Not long ago, I was driving along a straight country lane (NSA) and in a layby, there were some fogeys in portable chairs and a big electric placard. I was doing sixty, as usual, and the sign came up with ! 57 ! SLOW DOWN - 30 ! or the like, flashing orange letters. WTF? Coming back a bit later, I was doing ! 59 ! SLOW DOWN - 30 ! apparently. One of the fogeys made some sort of gesture while I went past, but I dunno what.

Someone else local saw this too, and they actually stopped. The fogeys were basically trying to "raise awareness" of speed or some other nonsense and had been loaned the kit by the council or plod or someone.

I wish I too had learned this, as they had the happy idea of returning a few times to see how high a speed they could record on the machine, bearing in mind there was nothing the fogeys could do about it and, in any case, they were supposed to be monitoring a residential street in the nearest village and that was why it had been set up at 30 for them.

Now imagine they had actually authority to send out NIPs? That's pretty much what the police have the power to do. Local councils are far worse, they see this quite literally as local authority funding at the expense of the reputation of central government and/or the local police force. Think about it.

Be aware that the police don't have to follow these guidelines and the courts will take into account extenuating circumstances, as I said. Also, Scotland is a different matter, these cover England and Wales.

Does having a speeding or other offence on your license prevent you being called for jury service?

Yeah, that's correct.

However, it's not really even a guideline anymore - you've got every chance of being prosecuted for breaking the speed limit by a small amount these days :/

Yep. And I overtake on school crossings. And I drive while on the phone. And I drink Jack Daniels at the wheel.
