How does 400bhp sound?

Because I've got the fueling capacity to make that now ;)

which does 312lts/hour @ 3bar.

T16 was starting to feel a bit normal so I though it was time to wind it up a bit more ;)

You don't want that popping if you've a cat. Mind you the Murcielago I saw the other day popped and crackled plenty and that surely must have cat.

OOOOOooooooooooooo - a shiny thing :)

Yea, well, the new engine i just ordered will power my beast to 753 bhp per tonne, and revs to 38,000rpm ;)

Also, heres another question for you, seein as you know about cars and stuff...

1993 405 1.6i cat.

Rev it up, when the revs are dropping, it pops a bit. Did it yesterday, then it stopped doing it, now its doing it again....

Any ideas?

Yes you've got a blowing exhaust, seriously ;) Probably a pin hole thats opening up as it gets hot.

Can you actualy sit in it though? And if you do whats the power to weight then? ;)

Reply it two seperate posts as I've been on the Stella.

Well, can one usually sit in the engine ;) ?

Is this the only thing that can cause it? I've got it on mine after I had a bigger 2 1/4 stainless exhaust made to fit the 4-2-1 manifold a couple of days ago. Pop , Pop , Pop when lifting off.

Having thought about this, and it does seem likely, what with the speed bump etc.... but why would this make it pop, and not just noisey? Although i do think it gets a tiny amount noiser once it gets well hot...

my car pops but that's coz it runs a bit rich for some reason. when it's warmed up and if you rev it up a couple of times and drop the accelerator it pops :)

Nice sound, brand new SS exhaust so maybe it was running in and is now not leaking, BTBH I think it is correct on this sort of car when it's in tune. ;)

warmed up and if you rev it

Uhuh exactly the same, only when its hot, but my first XR did this too so i think its normal ! I love it! But thats just because im a sad little boy who likes being annoying to the general public!

Caused by a weak mixture on overun With carbs a smaller idle air corrector jet fixes it. A soldered up one can richen it enough at high rpm to give flames at the tailpipe...

Oooo! Tell me more! I think that will probably be my next mod...! ;)

"Probably sounds quite loud, heh."

It's a holley, I know of the theory that these can be tuned, but beyond that I know where abouts it is and what bolts onto it. ;)

I actually think my timing is off, when it was on I got the pop noises, e.g. we might come stomping along a country lane and approach a roundabout, lift off and it would pop nicely, then put it back into gear with the throttle after the roundabout.

Won't be an air leak, it went away when I changed the fuel for higher octane.

Actually went back to unleaded to get the noise again, but it meant I was tending to overheat, c'est la vie.

same here :)

get it normally on the A12, giving it some in 4th and drop the pedal to brake hard is normally when it happens on that road :) sounds cool though

It's a fuel injected 4 cylinder engine, the only thing that's changed is the manifold back exhaust diameter, engine never did it before. old setup was the 4-2-1 (3inch pipe) manifold into a standard cat & exhaust. I wondered if it is (lack of) back pressure related?

Have you checked the oxygen sensor(s) in the exhaust pipe(s)? IF the PCM hasn't got data from vital sensors it might be in open loop fuelling.

On my modern car I get the data direct through a diagnostic port into a laptop and can see what's up, e.g. if the o2 sensor isn't stochastic switching then it's probably running lean or rich all the time.

On my old car, it doesn't matter if it pops, that's one of the things it does with the wasted fuel. With a cat, you have to care because the cat will become saturated with fuel and stop working, this is usually an expensive bit and an mot failure, so I'd care about that if I was you.

I've replaced and stored the cat for future use with a temporary straight through. I don't think the lambda sensor has been touched but I'll be honest I haven't actually checked it, it's on the manifold. It does sound like what you say is causing it though, running a bit rich. I haven't noticed a huge drop in mpg readout but then again it's still early days with the new exhaust system. I can connect it up to a laptop but I don't have the hardware (I know a man who does). The reason I was puzzled is that the only change since it started doing this has been the brand new SS exhaust system from the manifold back. Thanks for the reply.

If its a little engine with a big volume exhaust there may be enough unburned hydrocarbons kicking abut when the throttle is closed to pop whe the air is drawn through the motor, or via a small air leak (inwards) on the front part of the exhaust. It "pops" due to the "weak" mixture and slow burn in the pipe.
