Rock hard ? If it was I suspect the owner of the 90 would not be spinning his weels in 2nd and 3rd as he would have no tyres left.

So it was muddy and you were chewing it up and you were doing so for 1/2 a hour.

Yes it was, you upset a local, you gave them more grounds to get the lane closed. You say you have no interest in going off road so that makes it even worse as your actions are spoiling things for those of us who like to go green laining.

I'm not having a direct pop at you as I suspect (hope) you didn't know the ramifications of your actions, all I would ask is that if a similar opportunity arises you will think more about the bigger picture.

So you could see through the mud and water at the bottom of the hole and knew you hadn't eroded it any further after your 1/2 an hour of abuse ?

How do you think this pit was made in the first place ?

I may not know the lane you were talking about, however I have seen loads like it, nice lane with a small section just off it that people have been using as a play area for years, locals get fed up as the play area attracts lots of use, lane gets more and more chewed up, more complaints, council come along, do they spend thousands grading it (as they as supposed to) or do they say we've got better things to spend the money on, lets TRO (close) the lane, saves us money and keeps the locals / ramblers / voters / tree huggers happy.

Just because it's been abused for years does not make it okay, local to me we've just had two lanes closed for exactly these reasons. The locals, the council and the land owner are looking for any excuse to justify lane closure.

Using the lane is fine, tread lightly and all is well, people only see the damage some 4x4's do they never look at the lane clearing, burn out car removals and repair work that we do so all that hard preservation work gets ignored because of a hand full of tossers spoiling it for all.

At the end of the day it's a battle we will never win as the land owners want everyone off their land.
