If 'the public' wanted new cars that were the same as those made years ago, then no maker would ever bring out new ones.
Right or wrong, the majority of new car buyers want something that looks 'new'.
And Rover products look positively old. Regardless of how good or bad they might be in practice.

So for £30,000 you can create a ZT-T-500, or better still the 75 tourer with £5000 worth of blower gear added.
This beastie looks quite fun too:

I'd prefer the '214i' badged variant. :D

I wouldn't. My girlfriend wants something to keep chickens in.

Er, you're missing the point here.
That Maestro is a 500bhp monster, and officially the quickest FWD car in the country.
That 25 won't be far behind, if it's making 460bhp.

Me too. This reminds me of one of thousands of credit card offers I got in the post (or this might have been an advert somewhere) - they were offering a free brand new car if you signed up with them and/or transferred £xxx of balance to their card (can't remember the exact details). The car - a base spec Rover 25. Don't need to say any more.

There's a mortgage company doing that, too. Take out a £90,000 mortgage and get a free Rover 25 1.1i.
If I needed a mortgage and there were no strings; i.e. it's just a sweetener, I'd take it, flog it for £4,000 (delivery mileage brand new Rover 25 for under £5,000 anyone?) and buy the best Mk III Supra I could find, Or maybe a new digital drum kit. Or both!
Richard (of course, there will be strings, and I don't need a mortgage).

Aye - you'll probably find when the car turns up it's either..
1 - Brown
2 - Plastered with "XXXXXX mortgages"
3 - stolen recovered :o)

I wish I didn't need a mortgage!
Or, number 4, a finance reposession as a result of someone falling behind on their mortgage payments :-)
I'd consider it if the mortgage was as good as the best one I could find elsewhere, was only more expensive over the next 10 years or so to the tune of less than half of the value of the Rover. Chances are though, it probably won't fit those criteria.

I don't think it's me that is.
I don't care. It's been twatted VERY hard with the ugly stick, and that's from a starting point of it being a Maestro.
You'd think that if their workmanship mechanically is as good as it'd need to be to get that sort of oomph *for more than a minute*, the naff finish would offend them. Obviously not.

Obviously some people arent as vain as you.

I'm *far* from "vain" when it comes to my cars... Hell, there's Dulux peeling off some of my favourites in the "fleet".

It most definately is.
They've created a pair of 500bhp monsters, that annihilate all the FWD competition (and most of the RWD and 4x4 too !) at every drag run they go to.
And you comment on the dodgy badge, and looks of the Maestro ? It's a Maestro FFS !

LOL - a mate of mine once hand-painted an old Mk2 Granada in a deep dulux blue.
