Seen maybe 3 pairs of those, all look blue when off.

hehe know that's a whole different thread, this one is for headlights. would like to have some that looked white, aint to bothered by the blue twinkle but just want them to look white and not bloody yellow, think ronny found some good ones on ebay once before doing his exspensive HID stuff

They also have much shorter life span.

Nor do they change colour with angle in the same way - the only person they fool is the gullible owner.
"prismatic effect" is perhaps the best description...
And the blue coating actually reduces light output too.

Except that people (like me) buy these bulbs so they give a white (not yellow) light.
Quite obviously they're not gonna look anything like a HID setup !
But then you just buy a slightly higher wattage of bulb. Light output then remains the same, but it's not chatty yellow.
But if you'd bought the higher wattage bulbs without the (stupid boy racer blue) coating you'd get more light on the road.
